Role overview A senior software engineering position focused on owning and advancing a native Windows desktop application that supports a widely used text-to-speech reading product. The role combines deep technical leadership with hands-on development in a fully remote, distributed engineering organization. Success in this role means shaping a flagship Windows experience used by millions while championing accessibility and engineering quality.
Responsibilities - Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when needed - Establish and enforce best practices for code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, and Windows 10/11+ compatibility - Drive accessibility efforts, integrating Microsoft UI Automation and related frameworks, and validating focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support - Partner with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the long-term Windows platform roadmap - Own features end-to-end from conception and design through implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance - Diagnose and fix complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems with robust architectural solutions
Requirements - 3+ years of Windows desktop development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or comparable), C#, and XAML; native code in C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM is a plus - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and .NET-to-native interop - Proven track record shipping production desktop applications that emphasize reliability, performance, and scalability - Practical experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a dedication to inclusive software - Strong CS fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and async or multi-threaded programming - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions - Strong communication skills with a user-centric mindset for building polished, intuitive experiences
Nice to have - Experience writing automated UI tests (unit, integration, UI automation) using relevant frameworks - Desktop performance optimization across memory, startup time, rendering, and high-DPI support - Localization, globalization, RTL UI, and accessibility considerations across regions - Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop apps - Designing CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop distribution - Long-term ownership of feature areas, including refactoring and managing technical debt
