Role overview A senior engineering role centered on designing, building, and continuously improving a native Windows desktop application used by a global audience. The position blends hands-on implementation with technical leadership, with a strong focus on accessibility, performance, and craftsmanship across Windows 10/11. It is a fully remote opportunity based in Montreal.
Responsibilities - Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where appropriate. - Establish and enforce best practices across the Windows codebase, covering architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility, and maintainability. - Drive accessibility efforts, including integration of Windows accessibility APIs and validation of UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader behavior. - Partner with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape the platform roadmap, feature planning, and UI/UX architecture. - Take ownership of the full feature lifecycle: conception, design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. - Investigate and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems with sound architectural solutions.
Requirements - 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, and XAML, plus experience with native Windows code such as C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM. - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including .NET-to-native interop. - Demonstrated history of shipping production-quality desktop applications with strong reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Practical experience with Windows accessibility APIs like Microsoft UI Automation, and a commitment to inclusive software design. - Solid software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous programming. - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
Nice to have - Experience with automated UI testing (unit, integration, UI automation). - Performance optimization for desktop applications, including startup time, rendering, and high-DPI behavior. - Localization, internationalization, and right-to-left UI work. - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring tools. - Designing CI/CD workflows and release pipelines for desktop software.
