Role overview A senior engineering position focused on leading the design and development of a native Windows desktop application that powers a text-to-speech reading product used by millions. The role combines hands-on coding with architectural leadership in a fully remote, distributed engineering organization. It is ideal for someone who wants to shape a flagship Windows product end-to-end while championing accessibility.
Responsibilities - Lead design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop apps using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or comparable frameworks), C#, XAML, and C++ when needed - Establish and enforce engineering best practices around code structure, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, and Windows 10/11+ compatibility - Drive accessibility work including Microsoft UI Automation integration, keyboard navigation, focus management, and screen reader support - Partner with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the long-term Windows roadmap - Own the full lifecycle of features from concept and design through implementation, testing, release, and maintenance - Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, memory leaks, rendering glitches, and performance bottlenecks, proposing durable architectural fixes
Requirements - 3+ years building production Windows desktop apps with Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, and XAML; native C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM experience is a plus - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and .NET-to-native interop - Track record shipping reliable, high-performance desktop applications at scale - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs and commitment to inclusive software - Solid CS fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and async or multi-threaded programming - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions - Strong communication skills and a user-centric mindset focused on polished, intuitive experiences
Nice to have - UI test automation experience across unit, integration, and UI automation frameworks - Desktop performance tuning (startup time, memory, rendering, high-DPI behavior) - Localization, globalization, RTL UI support, and regional accessibility considerations - Telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, and error monitoring in desktop apps - Shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and distribution strategies for desktop software - Long-term ownership of feature areas including refactoring and technical debt management
