About this role

Role overview This senior engineering position centers on leading the design and development of native Windows desktop applications that serve a large global user base. The work combines deep technical leadership with hands-on coding, accessibility advocacy, and cross-functional collaboration. It is a high-impact, ownership-driven role suited to an engineer who wants to shape the long-term direction of a flagship desktop product.

Responsibilities - Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of native Windows desktop applications using the Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where appropriate. - Establish and enforce engineering best practices across the codebase, covering code structure, performance, memory management, responsive UI, and Windows 10/11+ compatibility. - Champion accessibility by integrating platform APIs such as Microsoft UI Automation, validating screen reader behavior, keyboard navigation, and focus management. - Partner with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to plan features, define UI/UX architecture, and shape the platform roadmap. - Own features end-to-end from concept through release and ongoing maintenance, ensuring reliability and consistency. - Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and rendering or compatibility issues, proposing durable architectural fixes.

Requirements - Three or more years of professional Windows desktop development experience with the Windows App SDK, WinUI or similar UI frameworks, C#, and XAML, plus comfort with native code such as C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM. - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed (.NET) and native code. - Demonstrated success shipping production-quality desktop applications with strong attention to reliability, performance, and maintainability. - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a clear commitment to inclusive software design. - Solid computer science fundamentals including object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous programming. - Track record of leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architectural decisions, paired with strong communication skills.

Nice to have - Experience writing automated UI tests and working with relevant testing frameworks. - Background in desktop performance optimization, including startup time, rendering, high-DPI support, and responsiveness under load. - Familiarity with localization, globalization, right-to-left UI support, and regional accessibility considerations. - Exposure to telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop products. - Experience shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop applications. - History of owning feature areas long-term, including refactoring and managing technical debt.

Benefits and work setup - A high-impact role where the work directly shapes what millions of users see and experience on Windows. - Collaborative, flat engineering culture that treats engineers as builders and decision-makers rather than ticket-takers. - Clear growth path toward broader technical leadership roles such as Tech Lead or Architect. - High autonomy and flexibility in how problems are solved, with end-to-end ownership of features and contribution to long-term product vision. - A mission-driven environment focused on building reliable, accessible, user-centered software. - Spain-based compensation ranges from 30,000 to 110,000 USD per year depending on experience, plus bonus and equity components. - The team operates in a fully distributed model with no central office requirement.
