About this role
Role overview A senior engineering role focused on a Windows desktop reading application used by millions of people worldwide. The product converts written content, such as documents, articles, and books, into audio to help users read faster and learn more easily. You will act as a technical lead within a fully distributed engineering organization, shaping the Windows platform end to end.
Responsibilities - Own the design, architecture, and development of native Windows applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where appropriate - Define and uphold engineering standards covering code structure, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility on Windows 10 and 11, and long-term maintainability - Lead accessibility work by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and similar frameworks, ensuring screen reader, focus management, and keyboard navigation work reliably - Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, and QA on roadmap planning, UI architecture, and feature design - Take features through the full lifecycle from concept and design to implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance - Investigate and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering problems, and compatibility issues
Requirements - Three or more years building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK or WinUI, C#, and XAML, plus comfort with native Windows code such as C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and managed-to-native interop via .NET - History of shipping production-grade desktop software with a focus on reliability and scalability - Practical experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a commitment to inclusive design - Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous programming - Demonstrated ability to lead technical design, mentor engineers, run code reviews, and make architecture-level decisions - Clear communication skills and a user-centric mindset
Nice to have - Automated UI testing experience across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers - Performance tuning work on startup time, high-DPI rendering, and responsiveness under load - Localization, globalization, and right-to-left UI support experience - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications - Experience shaping CI/CD workflows and release pipelines for desktop software
