About this role

Role overview This senior engineering role focuses on leading the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications within a text-to-speech product suite used by tens of millions of people. The position combines hands-on technical leadership with cross-functional collaboration, owning features end-to-end across conception, design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. It is a high-impact opportunity to shape the long-term direction of a widely distributed desktop product.

Responsibilities - Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI or related UI frameworks, C#, XAML, and C++ when needed. - Define and enforce engineering best practices across the Windows codebase, covering architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability. - Drive accessibility efforts by integrating and validating Windows accessibility APIs, ensuring strong focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities. - Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the long-term Windows platform roadmap. - Take ownership of the full feature lifecycle, ensuring quality, reliability, and consistency across releases. - Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions.

Requirements - 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI or similar frameworks, C#, and XAML, with bonus experience in C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM. - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed (.NET) and native code. - Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping production-quality desktop applications with strong attention to reliability, performance, and scalability. - Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a dedication to building inclusive software. - Solid software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming. - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions, paired with strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have - Experience writing automated UI tests (unit, integration, and UI automation) using relevant frameworks. - Background in performance optimization, including memory usage, startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, and responsiveness under load. - Familiarity with localization, globalization, right-to-left UI, and multi-region accessibility considerations. - Experience with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop apps. - Hands-on work shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop applications. - Demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term, including maintenance, refactoring, and managing technical debt.

Benefits and work setup - A high-impact role defining architecture and directly shaping the experience of millions of users. - A collaborative, flat-structure engineering culture that values builders and decision-makers, not just coders. - Opportunities to mentor others and grow into broader technical leadership roles such as Tech Lead or Architect. - Flexibility, autonomy, and end-to-end ownership of features, with input into long-term product vision. - A purpose-driven mission centered on building reliable, accessible, user-centered software that makes a meaningful difference for people.
