Role overview A senior engineering position focused on building native Windows desktop applications for a text-to-speech reading platform used by tens of millions of people worldwide. The role involves leading architecture and feature development end-to-end, with significant influence over the technical direction of the Windows product. It is a hands-on, high-ownership role suited for an experienced engineer who enjoys mentoring and shaping platform-wide decisions.
Responsibilities - Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of Windows desktop applications built with the Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where required. - Establish and uphold engineering best practices for performance, memory management, responsive UI, and cross-version compatibility across Windows 10 and 11. - Champion accessibility by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and related frameworks, ensuring strong keyboard navigation, screen reader support, and focus management. - Partner with designers, UX researchers, and QA to plan features, shape UI architecture, and contribute to the long-term Windows roadmap. - Own features across their full lifecycle, from conception through release and ongoing maintenance, while debugging complex performance and compatibility issues.
Requirements - Three or more years of professional Windows desktop development experience with WinUI or the Windows App SDK, C#, and XAML. - Deep familiarity with Windows application architecture, including managed-to-native interop via .NET, Win32, WinRT, or COM. - Demonstrated history of shipping production-quality desktop software with attention to reliability, scalability, and maintainability. - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a strong commitment to inclusive design. - Solid computer science fundamentals, including OOP, design patterns, data structures, memory management, and asynchronous programming. - Prior experience mentoring engineers, leading technical design reviews, and making architectural decisions.
Nice to have - Experience writing automated UI tests and working with relevant testing frameworks. - Background in performance optimization, including startup time, rendering, high-DPI support, and responsiveness. - Familiarity with localization, right-to-left UI, telemetry, crash reporting, and CI/CD pipelines for desktop releases.
