About this role
Role overview A senior software engineering role dedicated to building and evolving a native Windows desktop application behind a widely used text-to-speech reading platform. The position blends deep technical leadership with hands-on development in a fully remote, distributed engineering environment. The work directly shapes how millions of users experience the product on Windows.
Responsibilities - Architect and develop native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where appropriate - Set and uphold engineering standards for code architecture, performance, memory efficiency, responsive UI, and Windows 10/11+ compatibility - Champion accessibility by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and related Windows frameworks, ensuring screen reader support, focus management, and keyboard navigation work reliably - Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to plan features, define UI/UX architecture, and shape the platform roadmap - Carry features from concept through design, implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance - Investigate and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems with robust architectural solutions
Requirements - 3+ years of Windows desktop development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or equivalent), C#, and XAML; native code in C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM is highly valued - Strong grasp of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed .NET and native code - Demonstrated success shipping production-grade desktop software with a focus on reliability, performance, and scalability - Practical experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a dedication to inclusive design - Solid computer science fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions - Clear, persuasive communication and a user-centric approach to building polished experiences
Nice to have - Writing automated UI tests (unit, integration, UI automation) with relevant frameworks - Performance optimization for desktop apps (memory, startup time, rendering, high-DPI support) - Localization and globalization work, including RTL UI and accessibility for multiple regions - Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring - Designing CI/CD pipelines and release strategies for desktop distribution - Long-term ownership of feature modules, including refactoring and managing technical debt
Benefits and work setup - High-impact opportunity to define the architecture of a Windows product at scale - Flat, collaborative engineering culture with autonomy over technical direction - Mentorship and leadership opportunities, with a path toward Tech Lead or Architect roles - 100% remote, globally distributed team - US-based compensation of $140,000–$200,000 per year plus bonus and equity, based on experience
