Role overview A senior engineering role focused on building and evolving a Windows desktop reading application used by millions. The position centers on native Windows development, architectural leadership, and accessibility-first software craft, with end-to-end ownership of features from concept through long-term maintenance.
Responsibilities - Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where needed. - Establish and enforce engineering best practices across the Windows codebase, covering code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10 and 11), and long-term maintainability. - Champion accessibility by integrating Windows accessibility APIs (such as Microsoft UI Automation), validating screen-reader support, focus management, and keyboard navigation throughout the UI. - Partner with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the platform roadmap. - Own the full feature lifecycle from conception, design, and implementation through testing, release, and ongoing maintenance. - Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing durable architectural solutions.
Requirements - 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI or comparable UI frameworks, C#, XAML, with additional native code experience in C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM. - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including managed-to-native interop. - Track record of shipping production-quality desktop software with attention to reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a commitment to inclusive design. - Strong computer science fundamentals: object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming. - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
Nice to have - Automated UI testing experience (unit, integration, and UI automation). - Performance optimization for desktop apps, including startup time, high-DPI rendering, and responsiveness under load. - Localization, globalization, right-to-left UI, and international accessibility experience. - Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring. - Experience shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and desktop deployment strategies. - Demonstrated long-term ownership of feature areas, including refactoring and technical debt management.
