About this role

Role overview

Join a globally distributed engineering team building widely used text-to-speech software that helps tens of millions of people consume written content as audio across mobile, desktop, browser, and web platforms. As a senior engineer focused on Windows, you will own the technical direction of the native Windows desktop application and shape long-term platform strategy alongside product, design, research, and QA partners.

Responsibilities

- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of native Windows desktop applications using the Windows App SDK, WinUI or comparable UI frameworks, C#, XAML, and C++ where appropriate. - Establish and uphold engineering standards for the Windows codebase, covering architecture, performance, memory management, responsive UI behavior, cross-version compatibility on Windows 10 and 11, and long-term maintainability. - Champion accessibility by integrating Windows accessibility APIs, validating screen reader support, focus management, keyboard navigation, and inclusive UI patterns. - Partner with designers, UX researchers, and product stakeholders to plan features, define UI and UX architecture, and contribute to the Windows roadmap. - Take end-to-end ownership of features from concept through release and ongoing maintenance, ensuring consistent quality across updates. - Diagnose and resolve complex defects such as performance regressions, memory leaks, rendering glitches, and compatibility issues, and propose durable architectural fixes.

Requirements

- Three or more years of professional Windows desktop application development with the Windows App SDK, WinUI or similar frameworks, C#, and XAML, plus exposure to native Windows code (C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM). - Deep knowledge of Windows application architecture, including managed-to-native interop with .NET. - Track record of shipping production desktop applications that are reliable, performant, and scalable. - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs such as Microsoft UI Automation, with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive design. - Strong computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, common patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming. - Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical design reviews, and making architecture-level decisions, paired with clear written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

- Familiarity with automated UI testing approaches, including unit, integration, and UI automation suites. - Background in desktop performance tuning across startup time, memory footprint, rendering, and high-DPI scenarios. - Experience with localization, internationalization, and right-to-left interface support. - Exposure to telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop products. - Prior involvement in CI/CD pipelines, release engineering, and deployment strategies for desktop software. - History of owning large modules or product areas over time, including refactoring and managing technical debt.

Benefits and work setup

- High-impact position defining the architecture and future direction of a Windows product used by millions. - Flat, collaborative engineering culture where senior engineers act as builders and decision-makers rather than purely as implementers. - Clear growth path toward technical leadership roles such as Tech Lead or Architect, including mentoring responsibilities. - Fully remote, distributed working model with strong autonomy over how problems are solved. - Mission-driven environment centered on accessible, user-centered software. - Germany-based compensation in the range of 30,000 to 120,000 USD per year plus bonus and equity, depending on experience.
