About this role

Role overview

A senior engineering position focused on building and leading native Windows desktop applications for a text-to-speech product suite used by tens of millions of readers. The role combines hands-on development of the Windows client with technical leadership, accessibility advocacy, and architecture ownership. The team operates as a fully distributed, flat engineering organization, and the role is based in Alexandria, Egypt.

Responsibilities

- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or comparable UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and C++ where appropriate. - Define and uphold engineering best practices covering code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility across Windows 10 and 11, and long-term maintainability. - Champion accessibility by integrating Windows accessibility APIs, validating screen-reader support, keyboard navigation, focus management, and inclusive UI behavior throughout the product. - Partner with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the long-term Windows platform roadmap. - Own features end-to-end, from conception and design through implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring consistent quality across releases. - Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing durable architectural solutions.

Requirements

- Three or more years of professional experience building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK, WinUI (or equivalent), C#, and XAML, plus exposure to native Windows code such as C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM. - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed .NET code and native components. - Demonstrated track record of shipping production-quality desktop software with a focus on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs such as Microsoft UI Automation, paired with a commitment to inclusive software design. - Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming. - Prior experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions, with strong cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

- Experience writing automated UI tests, including unit, integration, and UI automation suites. - Background in desktop performance optimization such as startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, and responsiveness under load. - Familiarity with localization, globalization, right-to-left UI support, and regional accessibility considerations. - Experience with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications. - Prior involvement shaping CI/CD pipelines, release workflows, and deployment strategies for desktop software. - A history of taking long-term ownership of feature areas, including refactoring and managing technical debt.

Benefits and work setup

- High-impact role defining the architecture and direction of a Windows product used by millions. - Collaborative, flat engineering culture with autonomy, ownership, and influence over technical decisions. - Clear path toward broader technical leadership, including mentoring and steering technical direction. - Fully remote, distributed work environment with flexible, asynchronous collaboration. - Mission-driven focus on building reliable, accessible, user-centered software.
