About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering seat on a Core Experiences team that builds and maintains the SDKs and shared backend services behind a multi-platform text-to-speech product. The role is positioned at the boundary of product and infrastructure, designing clear, dependable APIs and simple systems that visibly shape user experience across web, mobile, and desktop.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product teams to scope projects, narrow scope for faster customer feedback, and weigh integration and UX tradeoffs per platform. - Improve existing behaviors such as load performance and document parsing by refining abstractions and algorithms. - Build cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs in Kotlin. - Maintain and evolve a cross-platform SDK that other teams integrate. - Operate within an asynchronous remote culture while staying aligned with designers, marketers, and product managers.
Requirements
- Strong systems thinking, end-to-end design instincts, and a preference for simplicity. - Speed in idea generation and clarity on what can ship now versus what needs more incubation. - Ability to stay focused independently within a busy, high-growth remote startup. - Effective collaboration and negotiation with opinionated cross-functional partners. - Production experience with Kotlin Multiplatform; Java background is acceptable but KMP is the primary working stack.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Benefits and work setup
- Remote, async-first working culture with a hands-off management style and entrepreneurial team. - Competitive compensation plus the chance to influence product and technical direction in a fast-growing AI-audio company. - Mission-driven product used by millions, including accessibility-focused features for people with dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, concussions, and autism. - Work concentrated in one of the more active corners of consumer tech, where AI and audio intersect.
