About this role
Role overview
Join the Core Experiences team of a fast-growing text-to-audio platform whose products help millions of people absorb written content by listening. As a Senior Software Engineer based in Rio de Janeiro, you will build and maintain the cross-platform SDKs and foundational services behind the core user experience, sitting at the crossroads of product and infrastructure. The position is well suited to a strategic engineer who enjoys crafting clean, dependable APIs and simple systems that directly shape how customers use the product.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product teams to scope initiatives, trim scope to get faster customer feedback, weigh integration and UX tradeoffs, and ship features through a cross-platform SDK. - Improve existing functionality by designing more efficient abstractions and tightening algorithms, with goals such as faster loading and more intelligent parsing. - Build and ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs in Kotlin. - Champion end-to-end system design so individual optimizations add up to a coherent, simple platform. - Translate customer and product signals into prioritized engineering improvements.
Requirements
- A systems mindset, with the belief that real optimization means designing end-to-end and that simplicity is worth defending. - A bias for speed: the ability to generate options quickly and judge what can ship now versus what genuinely needs more time. - Strong focus and self-direction, with the judgement to know when to engage and when to go heads-down in a busy, remote-first startup. - Solid collaboration skills, including working productively with opinionated designers, marketers, and product managers. - Professional experience with Kotlin Multiplatform, the company's primary cross-platform stack; Java experience is acceptable as a foundation.
Nice to have
- Prior experience building or operating services on Google Cloud Platform.
Benefits and work setup
- A fast-growing environment in which individual contributions visibly shape both the product and the company. - An entrepreneurial team culture that supports thoughtful risk-taking, intuition, and hustle. - A hands-off management approach designed to let engineers focus on deep work. - An opportunity to make a large impact within a transformative consumer technology category. - Competitive compensation, a friendly and laid-back atmosphere, and an emphasis on async-first collaboration. - Work on a widely used product that supports users across a broad range of learning and accessibility needs.
