About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering position on a Core Experiences team that owns the shared services and SDKs powering a multi-platform text-to-speech product. The role blends product engineering with platform thinking, focused on shipping reliable APIs and simple systems that meaningfully affect daily user experience in a fast-scaling audio-AI startup.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside product teams to scope work, narrow scope for faster feedback, and resolve integration and UX tradeoffs across surfaces. - Improve existing capabilities — for example, faster load times and smarter document parsing — through abstraction and algorithm upgrades. - Deliver cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs using Kotlin. - Maintain and grow a cross-platform SDK consumed by multiple product surfaces. - Contribute effectively inside a remote, async-first team alongside designers, marketers, and PMs.
Requirements
- End-to-end systems thinking and a strong bias toward simple, durable designs.
- A pace-oriented mindset: rapid idea generation, paired with sound judgment about what can ship immediately and what needs more time. - Comfort focusing independently within a busy, remote, high-growth startup environment. - Strong collaboration skills and the ability to negotiate product decisions with opinionated cross-functional partners. - Production Kotlin Multiplatform experience; Java familiarity is acceptable but KMP is the primary stack.
Nice to have
- Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first, async-friendly culture with minimal management overhead. - U.S. base pay for this role is $140,000–$200,000 per year, plus bonus and equity, depending on experience. - Influence over both product direction and technical foundation at a high-growth AI-audio company. - Mission-driven product surface used by millions, including accessibility-focused features for users with dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, concussions, and autism.
