About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering opening on a Core Experiences team responsible for the SDKs and shared services that power a cross-platform text-to-speech product. The role combines platform engineering with direct product impact, designing straightforward, dependable APIs and systems that shape the everyday experience of a large user base.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product teams to scope work, reduce scope for faster feedback, and navigate integration and UX tradeoffs across platforms. - Improve existing flows — such as load speed and content parsing — through stronger abstractions and algorithm work. - Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs in Kotlin. - Maintain and grow a cross-platform SDK used by other product surfaces. - Work effectively inside a remote, asynchronous team, coordinating with designers, marketers, and PMs.
Requirements
- Systems-level thinking and a clear preference for simple, end-to-end designs. - Fast iteration paired with judgment on what can ship now and what needs more time. - Discipline to focus independently within a high-growth, busy, remote startup. - Collaboration skills and the ability to navigate disagreements with opinionated cross-functional partners. - Production Kotlin Multiplatform experience; Java experience is acceptable but KMP is the active stack.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first, asynchronous culture with a hands-off management approach and entrepreneurial peers. - Scope to influence both product direction and technical foundations at a high-growth AI-audio company. - Mission-driven product with accessibility impact, including features used by people with dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, concussions, and autism. - Work sitting at the intersection of AI and consumer audio, one of the more active segments in current tech.
