About this role
Role overview Join the Core Experiences Team as a Senior Software Engineer working on the foundational services and SDKs that power a text-to-speech product used by millions of readers and listeners worldwide. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of product and infrastructure, focused on designing clear APIs and simple systems that meaningfully improve the user experience across multiple platforms. The position is based in Fort Collins, Colorado, and suits someone who enjoys moving between strategic thinking and hands-on engineering in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product teams to scope projects, narrow scope for faster feedback, and weigh integration and UX trade-offs - Ship functionality through a cross-platform SDK that powers the core reading and listening experience - Optimize existing features for faster loading and smarter parsing by improving abstractions and algorithms - Build and operate cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs in Kotlin - Help shape the technical direction of services that other product teams depend on
Requirements
- Strong systems thinking with a bias toward simplicity and end-to-end design - Ability to move quickly, generate options, and decide what can ship now versus later - Comfort working autonomously in a high-growth, remote-first setting, knowing when to engage and when to go heads-down - Collaborative mindset with experience working alongside designers, marketers, and product managers - Hands-on Kotlin Multiplatform experience (Java background acceptable)
Nice to have
- Prior production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Benefits and work setup
- Base salary range of $140,000–$200,000 USD per year plus bonus and equity, depending on experience - Fast-growing environment with room to shape product and engineering direction - Hands-off management style with an emphasis on focused, deep work - Asynchronous culture with a friendly, laid-back atmosphere - Mission-driven product that supports people with dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, concussions, autism, and other learning differences - Work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and audio technology
