About this role
Role overview
This Senior Software Engineer role is part of the Core Experiences team, which owns the foundational services and SDKs powering a leading audio-information platform. The position is based in the Almaty, Kazakhstan area and combines product sensibility with infrastructure depth, focusing on clean APIs and simple, reliable systems that meaningfully improve the end-user experience. The team is remote-first and moves at the pace of a high-growth startup serving a global user base.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with product teams to scope initiatives, narrow scope for faster user feedback, and navigate integration versus UX tradeoffs on the cross-platform SDK - Strengthen existing functionality by introducing better abstractions and improving algorithms for faster loading and smarter content parsing - Implement and operate cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs in Kotlin - Design APIs that are intuitive, dependable, and easy for other engineering teams to integrate - Participate in architectural discussions that influence platform performance and developer ergonomics
Requirements
- End-to-end systems thinking with a clear preference for simple, maintainable solutions - A speed-oriented mindset: ability to generate ideas quickly, evaluate them, and ship the right ones now while parking others for later - Comfort working in a busy, remote-first team, with the discipline to focus independently when needed - Demonstrated ability to collaborate with designers, marketers, and product managers who bring strong, sometimes competing, opinions - Practical experience with Kotlin Multiplatform; Java-only backgrounds are acceptable but Kotlin Multiplatform is the primary stack
Nice to have
- Prior experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Benefits and work setup
- Competitive salaries paired with a friendly, laid-back team culture - Asynchronous-first remote work with significant autonomy over how and when you work - A team that values entrepreneurship, intuition, and a willingness to take thoughtful risks - Hands-off management approach that prioritizes outcomes over micromanagement - Opportunity to contribute to a product used by millions, including accessibility features that support people with dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, and other learning differences - A seat at the table in the fast-growing space where AI meets consumer audio
