Mid-Level Software Engineer

Role overview A mid-level software engineering position focused on building and supporting application services for public-sector programs. The work centers on designing, developing, and maintaining Java- and Scala-based components, with a strong emphasis on REST APIs and cloud-native delivery. The role operates within an Agile team environment that partners closely with analysts and other technical staff to deliver reliable, secure software.

Responsibilities - Design, develop, test, and maintain software components across the full development lifecycle. - Build and enhance Java- and Scala-based REST APIs from technical designs and business requirements. - Collaborate with business analysts and technical teams to surface design gaps and drive functionality improvements. - Construct, configure, and support scalable solutions using modern frameworks and cloud tools. - Write and execute unit tests, then troubleshoot and resolve issues across development, test, and production environments. - Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives, while supporting deployments and ongoing maintenance.

Requirements - Five or more years of experience in software development and application support. - Strong hands-on work with Java and REST API development, plus modern JavaScript web practices. - Familiarity with software design patterns, object-oriented programming, and secure coding standards. - Experience with unit testing, debugging, and resolving complex application issues. - Background working in Agile or Scrum environments and with AWS cloud services for cloud-native applications. - Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance and to have resided in the United States for three of the past five years; bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Nice to have - Prior exposure to CMS, federal government, or healthcare systems. - Experience with NoSQL databases and Agile development teams.
