Mid-level Software Engineer

Role overview Mid-level Software Engineer role on a small engineering group within a peer-to-peer learning platform serving hundreds of thousands of learners and tutors worldwide. The position owns full-stack features end-to-end and pairs closely with design and other stakeholders to ship experiments and improve operations. The work sits at the intersection of user experience, people operations, and technology, with a focus on scaling high-quality, safe interactions between students globally.

Responsibilities - Work with users and teammates to understand problems, contribute product ideas, and take work from prototypes and experiments through deployment. - Scope work and make technical decisions with support from experienced teammates. - Write simple, readable code that is easy to maintain and change. - Participate in code reviews and pairing sessions to maintain codebase quality. - Contribute to features spanning AI-assisted tutoring practice, tutor-to-learner matching, and automated moderation for safety.

Requirements - 3+ years of experience as a full-stack software engineer with a track record of building and shipping full-stack features. - Ability to explain the product and technical tradeoffs behind approaches taken. - Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React, Next.js, and Postgres, or the ability to ramp up quickly. - User-focused mindset with a knack for identifying what would help learners and tutors most. - Comfort moving quickly while maintaining code quality. - Ability to work independently, ask for help when needed, and wear multiple hats when it serves users. - Availability to work in a US time zone.

Nice to have - Deep technical experience across the full stack including AWS and GCP. - Mobile application development experience. - Background in education or ed-tech products.
