About this role
Role overview This is an 8-month contract position for a senior cinematic animator creating high-quality in-game cinematics that meet a studio's established visual and performance benchmarks. The role spans the full cinematic process, from script interpretation and scene layout through final implementation in the game engine, while mentoring more junior artists.
Responsibilities - Develop cinematic animation using both motion capture and hand-key techniques, aligning with schedule and performance targets - Collaborate with animation directors and lead animators to design cinematics that reflect the project's vision and cinematography style - Help set and maintain performance standards, working with other departments to integrate cinematics cleanly into the game engine - Refine body and facial animation to deliver lifelike, engaging character performances - Participate in feedback sessions, present work, and incorporate critique - Track progress and workload using project management tools such as Jira and Flow, flagging roadblocks early
Requirements - Advanced knowledge of Maya - Strong grasp of animation and camera principles for realistic, immersive cinematics - Demonstrated experience producing high-quality cinematic content, ideally on game projects - Ability to mentor junior artists and contribute to team standards - Working authorization in the United States for the duration of the engagement
Nice to have - Familiarity with proprietary studio animation tools - Working knowledge of MotionBuilder and Adobe Premiere - Understanding of state machine flow within a game engine - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
