Senior DevOps Engineer (CDC)

Role overview

A senior DevOps engineer position supporting federal health and civilian government programs that deliver healthcare information, financial aid and benefits access, and records services to millions of people. The role owns CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure for a delivery team, working alongside developers to keep systems reliable, secure, and releasable on demand. Responsibilities

- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines plus AWS and Azure infrastructure that keep records systems reliable, secure, and releasable on demand. - Improve developer experience for web-based stacks such as Python, Java, and Node.js through automation, virtualization, and process refinement. - Champion lean-agile engineering practices including simple design and automated testing. - Safeguard sensitive data by applying security and privacy best practices throughout the stack. - Run security audits and risk analyses, then design and implement remediations. - Select tools, frameworks, and languages for each problem, with a preference for open-source solutions.

Requirements

- Solid grasp of modern software development concepts and ability to collaborate closely with software engineers. - Experience operating in a cloud-centric environment, managing disparate, interconnected systems with attention to availability, reliability, and resiliency. - Track record enabling continuous delivery via CI/CD pipelines. - Knowledge of secure, compliant application design and defending against common vulnerabilities. - Experience instrumenting applications and infrastructure for monitoring, metrics, alerting, logging, auditability, and compliance. - Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code and standardized deployment processes. - Comfort working on cross-functional teams (product, design, engineering, ops) in iterative delivery cycles.

Nice to have

- Hands-on AWS experience with services such as S3, Athena, SQS, Lambda, OpenSearch, and EKS, plus infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform. - Data migration or ETL experience. - Building and operating CI/CD pipelines for cloud-native applications. - Delivering technology in government, regulated industries, or other public-benefit settings. - A track record of staying aligned and accountable on remote teams.
