About this role
Role overview
This senior data architecture role sets the direction for a data platform that supports analytics, machine learning, and customer-facing products in insurance underwriting. You will shape the engineering roadmap, make consequential architecture decisions, and build trusted data services from ingestion through delivery. The work combines hands-on platform ownership with governance leadership and close partnership across data, AI, product, and platform teams.
Responsibilities
- Turn data strategy into an engineering roadmap with clear priorities, owners, and outcomes. - Own and evolve a Snowflake-based data lake, including its supporting services and data models. - Develop data patterns that serve analytics, AI/ML workflows, and products used by customers. - Build and operate processes for data quality, lineage, access controls, and regulatory needs. - Coordinate shared data initiatives with platform engineering, AI, and product partners. - Assess existing systems, identify gaps, deliver an end-to-end initiative, and advise on future platform priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, and at least seven years of data engineering experience, including senior or lead architectural ownership. - Current, in-depth Snowflake expertise, including dynamic tables, Openflow, replication, masking and row access policies, performance tuning, and Snowflake intelligence. - Strong SQL and Python skills, with practical use of generative AI tools in engineering work. - Insurance experience, ideally with property and casualty, an MGA, reinsurance, or insurtech; familiarity with submissions, policies, exposure, and claims is expected. - Experience leading architecture decisions and explaining them effectively to technical and nontechnical partners. - Knowledge of AI/ML governance and privacy requirements such as GDPR and CCPA.
Nice to have
- Experience with data platforms spanning regions and data residency constraints. - Exposure to analytics products whose data is directly used by customers. - Experience building a data agent that draws on multiple sources to support decisions.
