About this role
Role overview Lead architecture for high-throughput distributed systems, from backend services and event pipelines to data replication across regions. The work focuses on latency, fault tolerance, availability, and safe evolution of mission-critical systems, while setting technical direction and mentoring experienced engineers.
Responsibilities - Design and scale distributed microservices using Go, Rust, or Node.js. - Build resilient storage and caching architectures with relational databases and key-value systems. - Improve performance through benchmarking, connection-pool tuning, and asynchronous messaging patterns. - Apply zero-trust controls, cryptographic authentication, and mutual TLS between services. - Work with enterprise stakeholders to break down legacy monoliths into service-based architectures. - Improve developer workflows through code standards, CI/CD, and automated canary releases.
Requirements - At least 6 years of production experience designing large-scale distributed backend systems. - Strong capability in Go, Rust, or modern TypeScript/Node.js, backed by sound computer science fundamentals. - Deep understanding of database internals, including PostgreSQL sharding, transactions, indexing, and read replicas. - Practical Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform experience. - A record of delivering critical services against high availability targets, with experience communicating asynchronously and guiding technical direction.
Benefits and work setup - Full-time, globally remote role designed for asynchronous collaboration and flexible schedules. - Compensation is listed at $85,000–$140,000 USD annually plus equity. - The role description mentions health coverage for the employee and direct dependents, along with hardware support.
