Software Engineer

Role overview Establish quality ownership for a retail point-of-sale, back-office, and payments product. You will decide how each change is tested, build automation across product layers, and give teams reliable evidence for release decisions. The work combines software testing with hands-on validation on payment terminals and peripherals under real-world conditions.

Responsibilities - Set the quality strategy, including which checks are automated, which need hands-on testing, and what should block a release. - Build unit, integration, end-to-end, API, and contract test coverage with engineering teams. - Integrate reliable test runs into continuous integration and reduce flaky results. - Create evidence-based release gates, including regression checks, upgrade testing, staged rollouts, and hotfix criteria. - Validate terminals, readers, scanners, printers, offline use, unreliable networks, payment edge cases, and extended operation. - Create reproducible test data and environments, partner with support to investigate reported issues, and track product quality metrics. - Coach engineers on testability and quality practices; use AI tools to help generate tests and analyze failures.

Requirements - At least 6 years in QA or software engineering in test, including 2 or more years as a senior or lead quality owner for a shipped product. - Experience building test automation from the ground up. - Strong coding ability in Kotlin, Java, Ruby, TypeScript, Python, or a similar language. - Hands-on experience with modern testing frameworks and running automated tests in CI. - Experience testing APIs, data integrity, and system integrations. - Good risk judgment and clear writing for actionable bug reports and release communications.

Nice to have - Experience in point-of-sale, retail, or payments testing, including card-present flows or processor certification. - Familiarity with device fleet management, payment peripherals, contract testing, or Rails test tooling. - Experience with feature flags, staged rollouts, release-health monitoring, or AI-assisted testing tools.
