About this role

Role overview Lead firmware development for connected sensors, gateways, and other embedded devices deployed in large fleets. The work spans hardware selection and board bring-up through low-level software, power and connectivity management, and reliable data delivery, with a strong emphasis on devices that can operate safely and efficiently in the field.

Responsibilities - Evaluate processors, memory, and sensor combinations with electrical engineers, then validate choices on prototypes. - Bring up new boards by configuring interfaces, debugging system initialization, and confirming hardware and software work together. - Develop foundational firmware, including peripheral drivers, secure bootloaders, device updates, and power and connectivity management. - Optimize protocols and device behavior to extend battery life in sensors and gateways. - Partner with product, mobile, cloud, and quality teams so device data reaches downstream systems intact and useful. - Provide technical leadership through design reviews, sound implementation choices, mentorship, and guidance across engineering disciplines.

Requirements - Eight or more years building firmware for resource-constrained systems, with practical experience managing memory, processing, energy, and timing limits. - Led multiple firmware efforts from early architecture through validation and product launch. - Substantial bare-metal and RTOS experience, including scheduling, synchronization, memory, and timing decisions. - Experience bringing up new hardware and debugging interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and ADC. - Comfortable using lab instruments such as oscilloscopes and network or RF analyzers to diagnose hardware and firmware behavior. - Senior-level technical leadership across hardware, firmware, cloud, and quality work.

Nice to have Experience with fleet-scale over-the-air updates, rollback strategies, manufacturing processes, and production quality issues. Example technologies in the source include C, Go, Zephyr or FreeRTOS, protocol buffers, and AWS, though exact stack matches are not required.

Benefits and work setup The role supports remote and flexible work where operational needs allow, with office access for those who prefer in-person work. Listed rewards include salary, equity, health and parental leave benefits, and professional development support.
