Principal Software Engineer, AI

Role overview

A remote principal engineering role on an AI Platform team building the "Context Layer," a data platform that supplies AI agents with high-quality, well-governed context for enterprise revenue workflows. The position is a cross-cutting technical leadership role that synthesizes roadmap across platform domains, partners with feature and data engineering teams, and sets the bar for how context is modeled, retrieved, secured, and governed. The role is remote, based in Mexico with Guadalajara listed as a reference location.

Responsibilities

- Build the technical vision and roadmap for the Context Layer, encompassing knowledge graph components, RAG engines, and retrieval and search infrastructure. - Design and own the access control and RBAC model that governs how AI agents access multi-tenant data, including agent identity and fine-grained permissions. - Define and evolve the APIs, SDKs, and developer interfaces teams use to interact with the context layer. - Identify data platform dependencies and collaborate with data engineering to ensure underlying infrastructure reliably serves context needs. - Drive architecture discussions, design and code reviews, and set standards for context modeling, storage, retrieval, and governance. - Address governance, lineage, auditability, and security requirements for data accessed in an AI context, and contribute to hiring and onboarding.

Requirements

- Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction across multiple teams and drive complex, multi-stakeholder projects to delivery. - Strong understanding of access control and RBAC design in multi-tenant, data-rich environments, with sound judgment on tradeoffs. - Experience designing developer-facing APIs and SDKs that are intuitive, well-documented, and well-adopted internally. - Familiarity with data governance, lineage, and auditability requirements, particularly in enterprise or regulated contexts. - Experience with Python and/or Java, and comfort working across data engineering, backend systems, and platform infrastructure. - Excellent communication skills to align engineering, product, data, and leadership stakeholders.
