Staff AI Developer

Role overview

Lead the architecture and delivery of production AI and machine learning systems, guiding work from early design through deployment and ongoing improvement. You’ll provide technical direction on a cross-functional team, with a focus on building systems that are reliable, secure, scalable, and useful in real workflows.

Responsibilities - Own architecture and implementation for complex AI systems, including agentic applications, and carry solutions from research into production. - Build and evolve platforms, pipelines, and infrastructure for repeatable model development and deployment. - Set engineering standards for AI systems, including responsible AI practices, safety, reliability, and security. - Partner with product, engineering, and leadership to shape technical strategy and connect design choices to business outcomes. - Explain technical tradeoffs clearly, lead design reviews, and mentor engineers through coaching, pairing, and code reviews. - Improve system performance and operating costs, and address complex integration challenges.

Requirements - At least seven years of software development experience, including four or more years building production AI or ML systems and substantial generative AI experience. - Expert software engineering skills in Python or a similar language, with a strong foundation in maintainable, scalable design. - Deep cloud experience, especially with AWS services and generative AI offerings. - A track record of delivering agentic systems, RAG pipelines, and APIs that integrate with internal and external services at scale. - Experience with AI frameworks, orchestration, model evaluation, and observability—including creating these capabilities when needed. - Knowledge of responsible AI, prompt injection defenses, and personal data handling; hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AI-assisted coding tools. - Strong understanding of AI cost controls, such as token usage, caching, model routing, and quantization.

Benefits and work setup

The listed salary range is $170,000–$234,000 CAD. The role involves technical leadership on active, cross-functional work where reliability, security, and scalability are central.
