Role overview

A global education-technology company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Student Activities team building adaptive, personalised practice products used by K-12 students worldwide. The role focuses on a highly available, distributed SaaS platform serving millions of learners and thousands of requests per second, with end-to-end ownership across the stack. The position is remote-friendly and emphasises thoughtful use of AI tooling to accelerate delivery.

Responsibilities

- Architect, design, and ship features end-to-end, from React and TypeScript frontends through backend services and APIs to PostgreSQL data layers and infrastructure. - Design data models and schemas that remain correct, performant, and maintainable at scale. - Maintain and evolve backend services such as curricula-api and progress services powering student practice and reporting. - Run code reviews, mentor other engineers, and champion strong engineering practices across the team. - Adopt AI-assisted tooling in a thoughtful way to speed up how the team builds, ships, and supports software. - Collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers across a distributed remote environment. - Participate in an on-call rotation to resolve customer-facing incidents promptly.

Requirements

- 5+ years of professional software development experience shipping high-quality web software for large user bases. - Strong full-stack proficiency with React or a comparable SPA framework and TypeScript on the frontend, alongside backend service and API development. - Solid data-modelling skills and experience with relational databases, PostgreSQL preferred. - Demonstrated ability to conduct code reviews and mentor other engineers. - Strong written and verbal communication skills and a track record of thriving in agile, multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

- Experience with event-driven architecture. - Familiarity with AWS services such as ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3/CloudFront, ElastiCache, and Lambda, plus Docker. - Experience with CI/CD using GitHub Actions and observability tools such as Datadog or Bugsnag. - A genuine passion for education and improving outcomes for students and teachers.

Benefits and work setup

- Base salary range of approximately $109,500–$150,500, varying by experience and location. - For eligible US employees: medical, prescription, dental, vision, and telehealth coverage, health savings and flexible spending accounts, 401(k) and Roth 401(k) with company match, paid vacation and sick time, 12 paid holidays, parental leave, tuition reimbursement, life and disability insurance, and wellbeing and employee assistance programmes. - Remote work within the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
