Technical Lead

Role overview A hands-on technical leadership role on a squad building a cloud-based property management platform that combines automation and AI-driven insights. The Technical Lead partners with engineering and product managers to set direction, drive high-quality delivery, and shape how AI-assisted engineering is practised across the team. The role is based in Napier or remote elsewhere in New Zealand, with collaborative offices and flexible working.

Responsibilities - Architect services and systems using well-accepted patterns that support iterative, autonomous development and future scaling. - Lead team-level implementation planning, using AI to clarify intent, scope, and patterns, and ensuring plans are reviewed before execution. - Coordinate with engineering and product managers so work is accurately planned, clearly broken down, and delivered efficiently. - Anticipate blockers, delays, and cost overruns, and take accountability for squad-level decisions and their outcomes. - Write, generate, and maintain high-quality code across distributed systems, lead code review, and set standards for safe AI-assisted coding. - Drive monitoring and observability work, support complex production diagnosis, and mentor engineers through pairing, code review, and knowledge-sharing.

Requirements - 7+ years of software engineering experience, or a relevant tertiary qualification such as a degree or Microsoft Certification combined with strong experience. - Proven track record leading the technical direction of a team or squad. - Strong grounding in engineering practices and architectural patterns, with the ability to write clean, performant code and review others' work. - Experience building Cloud or SaaS web solutions, ideally on Microsoft Azure, with proficiency in C#, ASP.NET MVC, .NET Core, and SQL Server. - Front-end experience with Vue.js, React, or Angular, along with modern JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3. - Experience planning and implementing CI/CD pipelines and a security-first mindset across your own work and the work you review.

Nice to have - Hands-on experience leading how a team adopts AI-assisted development, including setting standards for code review and capturing shared learnings. - Terraform and Azure DevOps experience, or a track record leading in a similar stack.
