Remote job
Forward Deployed Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Own the technical work that connects an AI platform to customers’ mining operations, from understanding on-site workflows to making integrations and deployments work reliably. As the first engineer in this field-facing role, you’ll move between customer environments and product engineering, turning operational needs and constraints into tested, scalable solutions. The position is remote, with roughly a quarter of the time spent on site with customers across the United States.
Responsibilities - Serve as the technical point of contact for customer deployments and integrations. - Spend time with operators, analysts, and frontline teams to understand processes, constraints, and technical needs. - Rapidly prototype tools and integrations on site to test ideas, address urgent issues, and demonstrate feasibility before engineering handoff. - Troubleshoot complex customer systems and help ensure the product performs reliably in demanding environments. - Translate field observations and validated requirements into robust solutions for product and engineering teams.
Requirements - Strong technical judgment and the ability to work through ambiguous, detailed problems quickly. - Clear communication, including the ability to explain complex topics to varied stakeholders. - Strong data instincts: analyze evidence, form hypotheses, and use findings to guide decisions. - Hands-on prototyping ability and comfort using AI-assisted coding tools to test ideas quickly. - US-based; citizenship is preferred, while permanent residency is also listed as acceptable. - Willingness to travel for on-site customer work, approximately 25% of the time.
Nice to have - Experience working with customers in operational or field environments, or deploying software in industrial or government settings. - Familiarity with constraints such as safety, latency, offline operation, or compliance. - Exposure to mobile or web applications, cloud infrastructure, IoT or industrial systems, and real-time data pipelines. - Experience in sensitive or mission-critical settings, mining, or industrial safety regulations.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote work with regular customer travel. - Medical, dental, and vision coverage, unlimited paid time off, and a 401(k) with a 4% safe-harbor match. - Equity, competitive compensation, and a home office allowance.
