Junior Software Engineer (SQL)
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Build and maintain features across a full-stack application, with a particular focus on the SQL Server data layer. You’ll work with experienced engineers to develop queries and stored procedures that support .NET APIs and React interfaces, while gradually taking on more independent design and delivery work.
Responsibilities
- Implement well-scoped features and bug fixes across database, API, and interface layers. - Write and tune T-SQL queries and stored procedures; investigate slow queries and execution plans. - Follow code review, testing, source control, and deployment practices, asking for guidance when needed. - Monitor shipped work for defects and regressions, and address issues through launch and beyond. - Coordinate with engineering, product, and QA colleagues; share and receive constructive review feedback. - Use mocked or anonymized data for development and testing, and follow safeguards for sensitive health information, including when using AI tools.
Requirements
- Around 1–3 years of software development experience, including academic, internship, personal, or professional work. - A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience or certifications. - Working knowledge of SQL Server and T-SQL, including joins, stored procedures, indexes, and execution plans. - Familiarity with C#, .NET Core, REST APIs, and how data moves between a database, API, and front end. - Foundational knowledge of data structures, algorithms, source control, and deployment tools. - Evidence of contributing to a delivered feature or project, with clear communication, accountability, and openness to feedback. - Understanding of the care required when handling sensitive customer data.
Nice to have
- Experience with React, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS. - Familiarity with database design, normalization, or query performance work.
Benefits and work setup
The role is remote and includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, retirement plan matching, paid holidays, parental leave, volunteer time off, a remote work stipend, and an unlimited paid time off policy.
