Senior Data Governance Specialist

Role overview A senior data governance role supporting a U.S. federal education data program, designing and operationalizing enterprise-wide governance for Fabric and Ed-Fi data environments. The position combines policy development, framework design, and hands-on configuration of governance tooling within a DoD-aligned context. It is a remote role requiring an active Secret clearance and offers heavy collaboration with government stakeholders.

Responsibilities - Develop data standards, naming conventions, and quality thresholds for the Fabric and Ed-Fi data environments. - Lead steward network identification, training, protocols, and community-of-practice management across regions. - Operationalize governance processes including data quality reviews, access request handling, and governance board facilitation. - Author data retention and lifecycle policies aligned with federal retention requirements. - Support Master Data Management strategy development and data classification and marking efforts. - Configure and maintain Microsoft Purview governance controls such as sensitivity labels, domain definitions, access policies, and DLP rules. - Validate role-based access control configurations in alignment with Microsoft Entra ID. - Co-develop governance artifacts with government staff and produce governance maturity progress reports.

Requirements - Active Secret clearance. - CDMP or DGSP certification. - Hands-on experience configuring Microsoft Purview governance controls. - Familiarity with DoD Data Strategy and VAULTIS goals. - Experience with federated governance models and data classification or access governance frameworks.
