Senior AI Back-end Engineer

Role overview Senior AI backend engineer role at a consultancy building applied AI services for clients, with a current focus on the backend of an AI-powered research and analysis tool. The position combines deep Python backend engineering with hands-on work integrating large language models and agentic workflows into production systems. It is highly client-facing, remote, and based out of a South American office, with a clear path toward a technical lead role as the engagement matures.

Responsibilities - Maintain and extend backend systems for an AI-powered research and analysis platform built on Python. - Build and optimize data ingestion pipelines that pull from external sources, including reviews and a data warehouse, into the application layer. - Integrate LLMs and agents into existing backend workflows and design multi-step agent flows where appropriate. - Collaborate closely with a small cross-functional team spanning frontend, DevOps, and full-stack to ship features end to end. - Ensure backend services meet production standards for reliability, performance, and data integrity. - Translate client research workflows and stakeholder requirements into scalable backend solutions, contributing to ongoing architectural decisions.

Requirements - Lead-level experience in Python backend engineering, around 8+ years. - Proven experience translating business processes into technical requirements or solution designs, ideally in a consulting or client-facing delivery role. - Experience owning a roadmap and prioritizing competing initiatives by feasibility, ROI, and readiness. - Demonstrated stakeholder management with both technical teams and non-technical business leaders. - Experience working in structured, production environments with minimal oversight. - Fluent English at a native or near-native level.

Nice to have - Exposure to data engineering work such as ingestion pipelines or data warehousing, even if not a primary specialty. - Experience building tools for financial services or investment environments.
