About this role
Role overview
A remote, task-based AI training role designed for fully fluent Japanese speakers who enjoy natural conversation. Participants are matched on live video calls with other Japanese speakers to chat about ordinary topics while their dialogue is recorded and used to teach AI models how people really speak. Hours are entirely self-chosen, with no minimum commitment and no set schedule.
Responsibilities
- Join unscripted video conversations in Japanese with another participant and keep the discussion flowing on everyday themes.
- Allow the session to be recorded so researchers can analyze speech patterns, tone, and cultural nuance from the dialogue.
- Pass a short language assessment that confirms fluency before being added to the participant pool.
- Check individual task listings for details such as time expected and payment before opting in.
Requirements
- Native or near-native fluency in Japanese, comfortable across a range of casual topics.
- Sufficient English to follow written task briefs and any reporting steps.
- Confidence in holding a relaxed, open-ended conversation on camera with someone new.
- A quiet environment for calls, plus a dependable computer, solid internet, and a quality headset and microphone for clear audio capture.
- An approachable, easygoing personality that puts conversation partners at ease.
Nice to have
- Backgrounds involving teaching, interpreting, customer service, or applied linguistics are a plus.
Benefits and work setup
- 100 percent remote, with total flexibility over which tasks to take and when.
- Pay is set per project, with similar studies in this area paying up to around $18 per hour.
- Successful entry into the pool unlocks access to additional paid Japanese-language studies on the platform going forward.
