Remote job
Senior Software Engineer, Applied AI (IC)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Join an Applied AI engineering team that turns modern ML and large language models into reliable, scalable product capabilities. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on building an internal agent platform, embedding AI across the software development lifecycle, and shaping how AI-powered experiences get built over time.
Responsibilities - Design and ship primitives for the agent platform, including orchestration, tool/function calling, evaluation harnesses, prompt and version management, tracing, observability, and safety guardrails. - Embed AI into day-to-day engineering workflows such as code review assist, test generation, incident support, and developer copilots, with clear quality gates and measurable impact. - Take AI features from prototype through production, covering data needs, system design, model or vendor selection, rollout, monitoring, and iteration. - Diagnose agent behavior using traces, debug workflows the way you'd debug a distributed system, and verify AI-generated output rather than rubber-stamp it. - Identify where AI adoption is succeeding or stalling across teams and build what's missing, teach what's already built, and advocate for adoption. - Mentor peers and set engineering standards for reliability, evaluation, incident response, privacy, and security in AI-assisted work.
Requirements - 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of shipping production systems. - Direct experience on an Applied AI or product AI team building LLM- or ML-powered features, ideally including agents and tooling. - Sound judgment about what to delegate to agents, how to scope their context, and how to verify their output before trusting it. - Strong backend and system design skills across APIs, distributed systems, queues and workflows, observability, and performance. - Comfort navigating ambiguity and partnering cross-functionally with product, design, data/ML, and platform teams. - History of mentoring engineers and raising engineering quality, especially around critical review of AI-assisted code.
Nice to have - Experience building internal platforms such as SDKs, frameworks, or developer tooling. - Familiarity with embeddings, retrieval, evaluation methodology, model monitoring, and inference tradeoffs around latency, cost, and caching.
Benefits and work setup - Salary range of $220,000 to $250,000, depending on role, level, and work location. - Subsidized medical, dental, and vision plans; 401(k) with company match; annual bonus. - Flexible PTO with two weeks strongly encouraged, plus 16-week paid parental leave and disability benefits. - Remote-first work setup within the U.S., with a preference for candidates based in Atlanta; company-provided equipment and modern work schedules.
