Test & Evaluation Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A test and evaluation engineer is needed to build the verification machinery behind a spoken-intent autonomy interface. Because the input is human voice and the system is probabilistic, traditional unit tests reveal almost nothing — failures look like a vehicle acting on a command the operator never gave. The role owns the simulation, bench, and CI infrastructure that prove a build is ready before it ever reaches a live range, and produces the evidence that backs any performance claim.
Responsibilities - Stand up simulation, bench, and continuous integration capability so qualification happens earlier in the cycle, not just on expensive range days. - Extend test infrastructure and build hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop rigs against representative unmanned platforms. - Curate evaluation sets and adversarial suites that measure end-to-end behavior under degraded conditions, not just whether individual components return plausible outputs. - Execute test cards on live hardware, including safety-relevant behavior, and judge pass or fail based on observed behavior. - Convert a day of range data into replayable regression cases and additions to the evaluation suite within days. - Produce the evidence package that says a given build and configuration is ready, and be willing to say "not yet" with data behind it.
Requirements - Three or more years in test engineering, test automation, systems test, ML evaluation, or a closely comparable role. - Strong proficiency in Python, comfort on Linux, and hands-on experience with CI pipelines. - Demonstrated depth in at least one of test automation, hardware and bench test, ML evaluation, or platform test. - Willingness to travel to test ranges and customer sites — this is not a desk-only role. - Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience. - U.S. citizenship and current U.S. residency are required.
Nice to have - Experience testing robotics, unmanned systems, or autonomy products. - Background in defense test and evaluation, including formal test plans and government deliverable reporting. - Hands-on work testing systems that include machine learning components. - Part 107 certification or experience acting as a safety operator on small UAS. - Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
