Software Engineer - Neki Orchestration

Role overview

Build the cloud control plane for a sharded PostgreSQL platform designed to run demanding production workloads. This role focuses on automating cluster provisioning, scaling, healing, and data protection while minimizing customer-visible downtime. You will work on distributed systems and database infrastructure, collaborate directly with customers, and turn operational needs into improvements to the platform.

Responsibilities

- Design and implement control-plane services that provision, scale, and recover database clusters. - Build high-availability, disaster-recovery, and data-protection capabilities for infrastructure failure scenarios. - Develop automation and tooling for database operations, backups, restores, and migrations. - Improve reliability and operational safety for distributed, fault-tolerant services. - Investigate customer workloads and translate real-world requirements into platform enhancements. - Participate in an on-call rotation and help maintain production systems.

Requirements

- At least 5 years of experience designing, building, and supporting large-scale production systems. - Strong experience operating or maintaining large PostgreSQL deployments in production. - Strong proficiency in Go; experience with languages such as Ruby or Python is also relevant. - Solid understanding of operating-system fundamentals, including concurrency, memory, networking, storage, and performance. - Knowledge of distributed and fault-tolerant system design, Kubernetes, and containerized applications. - Strong communication, independent decision-making, and mentoring skills.

Benefits and work setup

- Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or remote. - Published base salary range: $120,000–$290,000 USD.
