Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead broad, end-to-end engineering work across the interfaces through which developers and AI agents use a data platform. The role spans backend architecture, versioned APIs, client libraries, command-line tools, web experiences, authentication, observability, and revenue-related systems, with substantial autonomy to shape product strategy and developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Design interfaces, protocols, and tooling that make AI-agent workflows straightforward and capable. - Deliver complete experiences across HTTP APIs, SDKs, CLIs, and web applications. - Build reusable platform capabilities, automation, AI-assisted workflows, and quality gates that increase team leverage. - Establish effective practices for using AI coding tools in day-to-day development. - Partner with product, design, and engineering teams to identify user needs and choose the right abstraction level for solutions. - Create observable and auditable systems with monitoring, alerting, and verification mechanisms.
Requirements
- At least four years of software engineering experience and the autonomy expected of a senior or staff-level contributor. - A strong bias toward automation, leverage, and scalable engineering systems. - Hands-on experience using AI coding tools as a meaningful part of your development workflow. - Proven ability to design and ship versioned APIs, SDKs, or client libraries. - Experience building web interfaces with React or a comparable framework. - Experience with at least one major cloud provider and good judgment about making APIs usable by both people and agents.
Nice to have
- Experience building or consuming MCP servers or designing APIs for agent use cases. - Familiarity with agentic frameworks, tool use, orchestration, or agent-to-agent communication. - Strong experience with Rust, Go, Java, large open-source projects, or database and query-engine SDKs.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote role within the United States. - Benefits listed include medical, dental, vision, and mental-health coverage; a 401(k) plan; equity awards; flexible time off; paid parental leave; an annual company retreat; and a work-from-home equipment stipend.
