About this role

Role overview

A senior backend engineering role focused on building and operating the foundational platform services that power a high-volume identity verification and deepfake-detection product. The work centers on distributed systems that must stay fast, reliable, and SLA-compliant during record traffic days, with end-to-end ownership from ambiguous problem framing through rollout and production support.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, test, and operate distributed backend services and APIs that support high-volume customer interactions. - Drive end-to-end ownership of platform work, from shaping technical plans through implementation, rollout, and ongoing production support. - Improve reliability, scalability, latency, and cost across shared platform systems used by teams across the business. - Partner with product, SRE, and peer engineering teams to deliver platform improvements without destabilizing live traffic. - Participate in on-call, incident response, and continuous improvement of alerting, runbooks, deployment quality, and capacity planning. - Raise engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, pairing, documentation, and mentorship.

Requirements

- 5-7+ years building backend services and APIs in production, or equivalent practical depth. - Strong hands-on experience with Python and/or Go. - Experience with distributed systems, concurrency, and cloud-native development on AWS and/or GCP using Kubernetes and Docker. - Proven production ownership, including deploying, monitoring, troubleshooting, and on-call for high-scale services. - Strong experience with data and messaging technologies such as PostgreSQL or Aurora, Redis, and RabbitMQ, with sound judgment on reliability, performance, and scale tradeoffs.

Nice to have

- Experience with Redshift, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, S3, Kinesis, or IAM. - Infrastructure as code, especially Terraform. - Strong observability habits across metrics, logs, and traces. - Experience scaling or migrating databases, including read replicas, cluster mode, or engine migrations.

Benefits and work setup

- Remote-first environment with flexibility in how the day is structured, plus regular in-person team on-sites and company gatherings. - Competitive compensation including equity participation for all employees. - Unlimited paid time off. - Multiple health and welfare plan options, including an employer-paid employee-only plan and HSA contributions. - Low-cost vision and dental coverage for employees and families. - Paid parental leave for birth, adoptive, and foster parents, plus a year of diaper delivery for new additions. - Recurring monthly phone and internet allowance. - Enhanced fertility and GLP-1 benefits. - Annual learning and development stipend for certifications and continued education. - US base pay range: $130,000-$170,000 USD, shown as a general guideline that may be adjusted based on scope, experience, and skills.
