About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering role focused on building and operating a multi-control-plane management platform that helps teams run infrastructure at scale across cloud and on-premises environments. The work blends hands-on product development of distributed Kubernetes-based services with production operations, including on-call responsibilities, customer issue investigation, and contributions to an open-source cloud-native ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Build, ship, and operate a multi-tenant SaaS control-plane product in production, troubleshooting issues across cloud and self-hosted deployments - Develop Go-based operators, controllers, and add-ons that interface with the Kubernetes API, with a strong emphasis on observability and debuggability - Investigate complex issues in customer environments, including reconciliation failures, resource bottlenecks, and performance problems, working directly with users to reproduce and resolve them - Drive the full lifecycle of scalable cloud services: discovery, design, review, implementation, deployment, and ongoing reliability work - Author design documents, post-incident reviews, runbooks, user guides, and blog posts that communicate technical decisions and operational learnings - Maintain operational tooling for debugging, health analysis, and incident response automation, and participate in an on-call rotation
Requirements
- Hands-on experience operating production cloud services at scale, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and post-mortem practice - Strong debugging skills across distributed systems, with working knowledge of observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or distributed tracing - Experience building and operating controllers that interact with the Kubernetes API server, including troubleshooting reconciliation loops and managing rate limits - Proficiency writing production Go code targeting Kubernetes controllers, operators, and platform tooling - Comfort working directly with customers to understand, reproduce, and resolve complex technical issues in their environments - A collaborative mindset with clear communication, ownership mindset, and an inclination to improve both code quality and operational posture
Nice to have
- Prior contributions to open-source Kubernetes, control-plane, or infrastructure projects - Familiarity with self-hosted software distribution lifecycles and diagnosing issues in customer-managed deployments - Experience with usage-based or product-led growth engineering practices
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-friendly position with hiring concentrated in the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle markets - Opportunity to work across both product engineering and production operations in a Series B-stage company building category-defining infrastructure tooling
