Job details
About this role
Role overview
As a Senior Software Engineer on a platform-core team, you will own foundational backend and data services used by multiple products and high-volume customer workflows. The role covers distributed systems, APIs, reliability, scalability, latency, cost, and production operations, with end-to-end responsibility from problem framing and design through rollout, incident response, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, deploy, and operate distributed backend services and APIs for high-volume workloads. - Lead platform initiatives from ambiguous initial requirements through technical planning, implementation, rollout, and production support. - Improve reliability, scalability, latency, capacity, and operating cost across shared services and data-layer components. - Partner with Product, SRE, and other engineering teams to deliver changes safely without disrupting live traffic. - Participate in on-call, incident response, troubleshooting, alerting improvements, runbook development, and deployment-quality work. - Strengthen engineering practices through design and code reviews, pairing, documentation, and mentorship.
Requirements
- Approximately 5–7 or more years building and operating production backend services and APIs, or equivalent practical experience. - Strong hands-on programming ability in Python and/or Go. - Experience with distributed systems, concurrency, cloud-native development, Kubernetes, and Docker on AWS and/or GCP. - Proven ownership of production systems, including deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and on-call support. - Experience with data and messaging technologies such as PostgreSQL or Aurora, Redis, and RabbitMQ. - Ability to reason clearly about reliability, performance, scalability, and tradeoffs while communicating effectively across teams.
Nice to have
- Experience with Redshift, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, S3, Kinesis, IAM, Terraform, or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling. - Strong observability practices using metrics, logs, and traces. - Experience scaling or migrating databases, including read replicas, clustered deployments, or engine migrations. - Interest in growing from senior execution toward broader technical leadership.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first environment with periodic in-person team events. - Equity eligibility, unlimited paid time off, health coverage options, employer HSA contributions, and dental and vision plans. - Paid parental leave, home connectivity support, professional-development funding, and retirement-plan benefits.
