About this role
Role overview A hands-on Windows and VMware Server Administrator is needed to provide daily operational and project support for a customer's Windows Server and VMware virtualization environment. The role spans provisioning, configuration, maintenance, and compliance across physical, virtual, and hybrid cloud compute, with a strong emphasis on automation, documentation, and cross-functional troubleshooting. The schedule is 8-to-5 Eastern Time and includes participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Responsibilities - Maintain virtualization infrastructure including provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and automation of VMware environments. - Administer and patch Windows Server operating systems and related infrastructure, performing regularly scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and hardware/software lifecycle activities. - Use Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), VMware vSphere, and the VMware vRealize Suite to deliver operational support across on-premises and cloud compute. - Create and maintain technical documentation for supported systems and ensure compliance of all assigned hardware, equipment, and configurations. - Build PowerShell-driven automation for administrative tasks, infrastructure provisioning, and systems management. - Evaluate, recommend, and implement changes to existing and emerging technologies aligned with the organization's strategic and tactical plans.
Requirements - 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting physical, virtual (VMware), and cloud compute environments (or 5 years with a BS/BA, or 9 years with a HS diploma). - Demonstrated experience with Windows Server OS, VMware vSphere, and VMware vRealize Suite in operational support roles. - 5+ years of PowerShell scripting for automation, provisioning, and systems management in Windows and VMware environments. - Strong cross-functional troubleshooting and communication skills, with experience using ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems. - US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a required agency clearance.
Nice to have - Background in federal or regulated environments, with familiarity applying FISMA, NIST 800-53, STIGs, or FedRAMP. - Experience with infrastructure monitoring and alerting tools such as vRealize Operations, SolarWinds, or Splunk. - Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified Windows Server, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), AWS or Azure Administrator, or CompTIA Security+. - Working knowledge of storage, network technologies, connectivity, protocols, and security.
