About this role
Role overview An experienced Linux Administrator is needed to deliver operational support for a large federal enterprise environment spanning roughly 3,500 physical and virtual servers across on-premises datacenters and public cloud platforms. The role combines day-to-day system administration with automation, patching, documentation, and customer-facing troubleshooting, with a strong emphasis on security hardening and stability. The position is based on an 8-to-5 Eastern Time schedule and requires participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Responsibilities - Provide operational support for on-premises and cloud (AWS and Azure) Linux environments, including provisioning, patching, and incident response. - Build and maintain server images, perform Kickstart-based hardware builds, and develop automation for repetitive administration and recovery tasks. - Create, update, and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and reporting artifacts. - Work directly with customers to integrate applications, troubleshoot complex issues within defined SLAs, and recommend improvements. - Operate infrastructure tooling such as Red Hat Satellite/Capsule, Foreman, Pacemaker, Ansible Tower, OpenShift, and Veritas storage and clustering stacks. - Support server backup, vulnerability scanning, server hardening, and OSCAP-driven compliance activities using monitoring and ticketing tools.
Requirements - 5+ years of Linux Administration experience (or 5 years with a BS/BA, or 9 years with a HS diploma). - Hands-on experience with Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu, Oracle Linux, OpenShift, OCFS2, and Cisco hardware builds and provisioning via Kickstart. - Working knowledge of Veritas InfoScale (VCS, VxVM, VxFS), NetApp storage, and VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter). - Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, Infrastructure as Code (Ansible or Puppet), and scripting in Bash, ksh, YAML, or PowerShell. - Experience with SolarWinds monitoring, ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems, and common security products such as Splunk. - US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a required agency clearance.
Nice to have - Certifications and experience with AWS, Azure, or Centrify. - Knowledge of network technologies, connectivity, protocols, and security fundamentals. - Strong communication skills and a self-motivated, accountable approach with the ability to coach teammates.
