Software Engineer

Role overview A remote Software Engineer position focused on building and maintaining Java-based enterprise applications within a government-adjacent technology environment. The role blends hands-on backend development with architecture contributions, API design, and security compliance work, supporting modular and scalable systems that handle sensitive data.

Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain Java enterprise applications using Spring Boot and related modern frameworks. - Contribute to or lead the architecture of modular, scalable systems and microservices-based solutions. - Build robust RESTful APIs and integrate distributed components across services. - Conduct unit, integration, and functional testing to ensure code quality and reliability. - Support vulnerability remediation and help systems meet cybersecurity compliance standards. - Troubleshoot complex issues spanning multiple systems and environments, participate in code reviews, mentor junior developers, and produce clear technical documentation.

Requirements - Several years of professional experience (approximately five with a bachelor's, three with a master's, or related equivalency) in software engineering. - Strong proficiency with Java, object-oriented design, and Spring Boot. - Hands-on experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including Oracle RDBMS and MongoDB. - Deep understanding of REST APIs, HTTP protocols, and core web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, WebSocket, CSS). - Comfort with Linux environments, command-line tools, Git version control, and Maven build tools. - Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines, plus exposure to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or AWS. - An active Public Trust clearance and an AIM/IAT Level II cybersecurity workforce certification (such as Security+ or CASP+).

Nice to have - Familiarity with Angular or other front-end frameworks. - Experience with Oracle Cloud, particularly in government settings. - Foundational understanding of AI/ML concepts or willingness to learn. - Awareness of prompt engineering principles for large language model applications.
