Backend Engineer

Role overview Strengthen the core of a scalable SaaS platform as a Backend Engineer responsible for the systems that power customer-facing features. The role spans API development, database design, and performance optimization in a transactional, event-based architecture hosted on AWS. It is a high-ownership position with direct influence on the speed and reliability customers experience.

Responsibilities - Build and scale API endpoints capable of supporting a rapidly growing customer base - Design relational database schemas and select appropriate caching or invalidation strategies - Optimize existing features for fast API response times as usage scales - Contribute to backend work in Node.js and NestJS against a PostgreSQL data layer - Operate within a Docker-based deployment with Docker Swarm - Collaborate on a new customizable, block-based canvas product alongside frontend engineers

Requirements - Meaningful experience designing and building scalable web applications on the server side - Strong understanding of relational database internals, including transactions, indices, and schema design - Proficiency in Node.js; familiarity with NestJS is a plus - Comfort working on AWS and with basic Docker operations - Daily use of Visual Studio Code and git - Self-driven, resilient approach suited to a fast-paced agile SaaS startup - Clear communication in English or German

Nice to have - Familiarity with event-based or transactional architectures - Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, or large monorepo development
