About this role
Role overview Lead a data engineering function supporting a regulated digital entertainment and sports betting platform. Reporting into the broader Data Engineering organization, this manager partners with Data Services, Analytics Engineering, Product, Finance, Compliance, and Business stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable data pipelines and infrastructure while serving as the primary technical point of contact for state and provincial regulators.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of the data engineering team, including goal setting, mentorship, coaching, performance management, and integrating AI-assisted practices into the software development lifecycle. - Serve as a professional liaison with state and provincial regulatory bodies, setting clear expectations and operating within a workstream subject to strict deadlines and external auditors. - Collaborate with analytics, finance, compliance, and other engineering teams to build data pipelines, infrastructure, and tooling that supports analytics initiatives. - Prioritize and drive data-related projects from inception through delivery, balancing technical assessment with regulatory need. - Contribute to the design, maintenance, and continual improvement of the data engineering architecture and pipeline ecosystem to meet performance, scalability, and reliability targets.
Requirements
- Solid foundation in data engineering or computer science, with strong competencies in distributed systems and software/system design. - Minimum 3 years leading or managing a data-oriented team, combined with at least 5 years of software or data development experience; demonstrated experience managing teams of 3 or more engineers. - Experience in a regulated industry, plus familiarity with workflow and pipeline tools such as Airflow, dbt, and AWS Lambda. - Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, Python, and Docker, with hands-on experience on a major cloud platform (GCP or AWS) and its related services. - Working knowledge of data architecture and governance, system design fundamentals, and agile tools such as the Atlassian suite; excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to have
- Web experience (React, Django, Flask), Kubernetes, and Terraform exposure, plus familiarity with machine learning concepts.
