Sr Engineering Manager-Android & Device Platforms

Role overview

This is a senior engineering leadership role overseeing software development for a fleet of connected devices deployed in clinical and on-site healthcare settings. The position owns engineering outcomes across multiple device-side product areas—including field operations tooling, exam-room patient engagement technology, waiting-room displays, and back-office systems—running on Android and BrightSign hardware. It is a hands-on manager-of-managers position that combines people leadership with direct technical contribution.

Responsibilities

- Own engineering outcomes across several concurrently active device product areas, each with different tech stacks and team maturity. - Manage a blended group of senior Engineering Leads and individual-contributor engineers, handling hiring, performance reviews, and career development. - Stay close to the code by leading reviews, contributing directly when needed, and guiding technical best practices. - Promote AI-assisted and agentic engineering workflows both internally and within the product's AI-powered capabilities. - Coordinate priorities and dependencies across three or more parallel workstreams and contribute to cross-organization architecture discussions. - Partner with Product and Design leads on execution, and escalate organizational or resourcing needs to engineering leadership.

Requirements

- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years leading engineers or teams. - Recent hands-on technical work (within the last 1–2 years) such as production code contributions, code reviews, architecture design, or defect troubleshooting; a coding assessment is part of the interview process. - Current native Android development experience using Kotlin and modern Android practices, plus Java. - Experience with AOSP, customized Android ROMs, rooted or kiosk-mode devices, APK distribution, or OS upgrade programs. - Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React-based front-ends. - Background building software for connected, managed, or remotely deployed device fleets, plus experience leading engineers across multiple concurrent products or domains.

- Hands-on exposure to AWS services such as IoT Core, Lambda, and Bedrock AgentCore. - Comfort remaining technically hands-on while developing talent and balancing near-term delivery with long-term reliability.
