Role overview A global cybersecurity organization is hiring a senior software engineer to advance its networking and secure access platform. The role centers on client-server development, with particular attention to network routing, load balancing, secure APIs, congestion control, reliability, and performance monitoring. Work is fully remote and focuses on Linux-based server software written primarily in Python.
Responsibilities - Partner with product management to refine feature specifications - Design, build, and maintain Linux-based server software primarily in Python - Develop and evolve web-based APIs using XML-RPC and REST patterns - Contribute to systems supporting remote access, site-to-site connectivity, load balancing, failover, and fine-grained access controls - Apply asynchronous programming techniques to deliver responsive, scalable services - Collaborate with other developers across development and deployment workflows
Requirements - At least five years of professional programming experience, ideally on Linux server environments - Strong proficiency in Python 3, including asynchronous programming - Hands-on experience with JSON and REST APIs on both server and client sides - Working knowledge of HTTP, HTTPS, SSL VPN concepts, and core encryption and PKI principles - Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL and ORMs like SQLAlchemy - Comfort with Git and standard software development lifecycles - Upper-intermediate written and spoken English, plus strong communication and teamwork skills
Nice to have - Deep familiarity with the TCP/IP stack, UDP, TCP, sockets, and other networking protocols - Strong Linux networking experience, including kernel modules such as netfilter - Exposure to libraries or frameworks like Boost, Ember.js, or Twisted - Web UI development experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - Prior open-source contributions
