Remote job
Senior Product Designer, Design Systems
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead the shared design system used across patient- and client-facing products, AI-assisted experiences, and internal operational tools. You’ll unify existing libraries, define the standards and workflows that keep design and code aligned, and help both people and AI tools apply components consistently across varied products and client themes.
Responsibilities
- Own the system lifecycle, from audit and roadmap through component design, documentation, release, migration, and adoption. - Consolidate existing component libraries and plan how teams move to the shared system. - Define tiered design tokens for color, typography, spacing, elevation, and motion, including support for multiple client themes. - Automate the flow of design variables into code and keep design and implementation aligned. - Create practical documentation, examples, and AI agent instructions; make system guidance accessible to agents through metadata and machine-readable resources. - Prototype and validate components in code, specifying behavior for accessibility, errors, edge cases, and empty states. - Partner with engineering and product teams on quality, adoption, AI interaction patterns, and dense operational interfaces such as tables, filters, forms, and charts.
Requirements
- At least five years of product design experience, including two or more years focused on systems used by multiple teams. - Strong knowledge of design tokens and pipelines, theming, component APIs, versioning, and governance. - Examples of AI instructions, skills, or documentation that changed how people or tools built with a system. - Comfortable reading HTML, CSS, and React, working in Storybook and Figma, and using a terminal to build and test prototypes. - Strong systems and product judgment, with the ability to balance shared standards and justified exceptions. - Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA, excellent visual and interaction craft, and a portfolio showing system structure, adoption, and impact. - Collaborative and self-directed, able to build adoption through partnership across design, engineering, and product.
Nice to have
- Healthcare or other regulated-industry experience.
