Backend Engineer III - Growth
Job details
About this role
Role overview A backend engineering role on a horizontal Growth Infrastructure platform team supporting experimentation, event tracking, and shared services for mobile-first outdoor lifestyle products spanning hunting, offroad, backcountry, and fishing verticals. The position emphasizes reliable, well-tested backend services that other Growth teams depend on, in a fast-paced, experimentation-driven environment.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain scalable services supporting content experimentation and event tracking across multiple product verticals. - Write unit, integration, and acceptance tests, and participate in architectural discussions and design proposals for backend services. - Collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders including mobile, BI, and marketing teams. - Leverage and extend existing internal services rather than reinventing them, and proactively apply AI workflows to increase velocity without sacrificing quality. - Participate in an on-call rotation to support backend services after hours.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, or equivalent practical experience. - 5+ years of professional software development experience, primarily in API development. - Permanent US work authorization. - Willingness to travel quarterly for multiple days to a corporate office or other company-organized in-person gathering. - Alignment with company values around outdoor exploration, ownership, and collaboration.
Nice to have - Hands-on experience with Go or similar backend languages. - Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform. - Experience with a major cloud platform, ideally Google Cloud Platform. - Exposure to A/B testing or experimentation platforms.
Benefits and work setup - Distributed company model with regular in-person collaboration at regional basecamps plus quarterly corporate gatherings. - Competitive salaries, annual bonus tied to company performance, and equity through common share options with a vesting schedule. - Comprehensive health coverage including a no-monthly-cost medical plan option, paid parental leave, and 401k matching. - Annual outdoor activity stipend, company-wide outdoor events, and flexible paid time off including volunteer and short-term time-off categories.
